Private tutor in Richmond, CA
Education
Hi there! My name is Rachel and I am so excited for the opportunity to work with you! I am currently in a clinical psychology doctoral program at The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. I received my BA in Intensive Psychology and graduated with double honors from University of CA, Santa Cruz. In addition to the requirements of the regular psychology major, I also completed two quarters of research and two extra advanced classes.
Experience
I began tutoring writing in my sophomore year at UCSC and continued to for every quarter until I graduated. I truly love working with students to help them realize their strengths as writers, as well as conquer their fears and weaknesses. I also strongly believe in the importance of developing the student's voice and personal writing style. I have tutored writing/English for the past three years at UCSC. I have worked with students individually as well as in small groups, and was the official drop-in writing tutor for my college for one academic year. I have tutored four categories of writing classes, and additionally have tutored students in writing for a variety of disciplines including Anthropology, Psychology, Latin American and Latino Studies, Philosophy, History of Art and Visual Culture, etc. Additional teaching experience: I was a Teaching Assistant for the required freshman English class for Kresge College for three years. I attended all classes and lead my own class on Fridays during which I went over class material in more depth with the students and provided supplementary material to engage them further. Although tutoring writing is my area of expertise, as a psychology major, I am quite comfortable with the material and would be more than happy to tutor students in a variety of psychology classes! I would be most comfortable working with high school or college students.
